Recharging the Creative Batteries

Recharging my Creative Batteries is an investment in my business… And ultimately in yours too!

This past year has been incredible for me professionally—I’ve worked with so many inspiring business owners who have let me be creative and it’s resulted in some of my most effective work ever… It’s feels great! And when clients are fab, the work feels good, and you get in a groove, it’s easy to get caught up in it… Until one day you realize that work has kinda taken over. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but the more I’m putting out, the less I’m able to take in. So I’ve found that it’s important to make sure I take the breaks I need to recharge. Too much could lead to burnout and that’s no good for anyone.

This is why I know that taking time to recharge isn’t really a “break” from my work, it’s actually an important investment in it.

As a creative person, I make it a priority to seek inspiration in my free time. Sometimes this is through seeing live music, attending talks and other events at The Wing, or taking a class like the hand-lettering ones I’ve taken over the past few months. These little surges are super important to my process, but if I had to choose a favorite way to really recharge, it’s through travel. Not only is it nice to have change of scenery and pace, but exploring different cultures and landscapes greatly inform my creative process.

I’ve always been a big fan of travel; I met my husband on an airplane and even have a tattoo of one. And as a first- and second-generation American, I owe my very existence to voyagers.

This week I’m off to Tulum, Mexico and I’m super excited to see what new ideas come home with me.

Have you ever been to Tulum? If you have recommendations, I’d love to hear them! Please feel free to comment below or write to me at cody@lokitimestwo.com.

And please feel free to tag along my summer adventures on Instagram.

How do you recharge?
