These are five of my most-used and most-taught helpful keyboard shortcuts for Mac users:
Screenshots: Command + Shift + 4
The screenshot is a necessity in my biz. “My site looks funny” is only so helpful—I always ask for a screenshot so I can see exactly what you’re looking at.
Once you’ve held down the above-mentioned keys in unison, you’ll see that your cursor changes into a bullseye. Choose a corner of your desired screenshot, click, and drag over the area you want to capture. When you let go, you’ll hear a little shutter sound. Check your desktop and your screenshot should be there.
Zoom-In/Zoom-Out: Command + =/Command + –
Can’t read the fine print on that webpage? Zoom on in. Ready to go back? Zoom back out again. It’s that simple.
Search for Content on a Page or in a Document: Command + f
The Find command helps you search for a particular word or phrase on a webpage or in a document. Really important if you’re looking for something in particular.
Undo: Command + z
Did you just hit the Delete button, unaware your entire contents of the email you just spent two hours drafting was selected? Undo the last thing you typed… And even go a few steps back by try+ing it over and over.
Open a New Tab in Your Online Browser: Command + t
Tabbed browsing is the bee’s knees. For realsies. Keep your email open in one tab, Facebook in another, and go shopping in yet another… But only after you check your bank balance in another tab. For me, tabbed browsing allows me to work on several projects at once, switching back and forth between screens when Client 1 emails me a question and Client 2 is on the phone.
