How amazing is it that last December, just when I was starting to publicly announce my pregnancy, (completely coincidentally) I got an inquiry from a skin care line known for their maternity products? Even better, over the next six months, I was able to work with them to reimagine their brand identity, redesign their packaging (which hasn’t launched yet—stay tuned!), and launch their brand new e-commerce website, all as my belly grew and right up until I had to bow out for maternity leave. On a related note, because I know you’re wondering, yes, I used their products throughout my pregnancy and no, I did not get a single stretch mark (thank goodness!).
As an established brand with a great reputation and an impressive retail shelf-presence, it was important to maintain what was working while upgrading the overall look to better reflect the integrity of the products. So, much like pregnancy and parenthood, the project was truly a balancing act.
For the logo, we kept the basic look, but updated it in black and added a chic border. From there, the packaging had to be updated, but not so much that it would be a shock at shelf. The basic muted colors of their existing packaging and their signature stripes were working well to set them apart from the competition, so keeping mind that the packaging update would be subtle, the shift for the web design and the rest of the visual identity had to work with then new look of the products. From a functionality standpoint, the new website needed to be a modern, functional, user-friendly site that highlights basq’s commitment to high-quality ingredients and their status as experts in the “problem” skin care world.
Of course, it’s going to be amazing once we’re able to update the site with new photography of the new packaging to complete the transformation, but even without the new packaging ready just yet, the site’s a sight to behold!
I’m also super excited that basq chose to feature me as their first-ever “people we love!”
