I’m really excited to introduce you to Loki Loki’s new executive assistant, Jacqueline Leibler, whom I met in a fan group for Murderinos (fans of the true crime podcast My Favorite Murder) who also like Schitt’s Creek. It’s a sweet spot, apparently.
As told to me by Jacqueline:
“Hi, I’m Jacqueline Leibler. I’m a Virtual Assistant and Operations Specialist with a background in Digital Marketing and Change Management and I help busy CEOs streamline their operations and improve productivity. I have been working in office administration and operations management since 1997.
“I grew up in Atlanta, GA and moved to Phoenix, AZ in 2002. I moved back to Atlanta in 2010 and most recently I have settled with my husband and three dogs in Memphis,TN. I love working remotely as it allows me to work from anywhere in the world!
“I am also trained in Massage Therapy and restorative exercise and I am currently taking acting classes at a professional theater here in Memphis, as I provide voice over services and would like to branch out into television and radio.
“I am a fan of all things Marvel and DC, Doctor Who, Veronica Mars, and I devour anything related to true crime.
“I met Cody thanks to our shared love of the true crime podcast My Favorite Murder and the heartwarming Canadian TV show Schitt’s Creek, when we bumped into each other in the comments section of a Facebook group for fans of both. I adore Cody and her work is some of the best I’ve seen in the branding world. I am so excited to be a part of the stunning transformations of her client’s brands, and it’s so much fun to be a party to her process.”
Q: Karen and Georgia pick you from the audience to tell your hometown murder—what story do you tell?
My hometown murder is BANANAS. Mostly because it’s very sad and we still don’t know why he did it, but also because I was friends with the murderer’s sister. It happened in Dunwoody, GA in 1987 (also the hometown of Ryan Seacrest NBD). A 15-year old highschool student knocked on the door of a 20 year-old neighbor’s house after he mowed her lawn and proceeded to stab her 57 times. In the process, he cut off the tip of his pinky finger. After he took a shower in her bathroom, his clothes were still covered in blood, so when he went home, he told his parents it was from cutting off his fingertip with the lawnmower. They took him to the hospital where the doctors said they could reattach if he could bring in the fingertip. For some reason he agreed to let his parents take him back to the victim’s house to get it and the police were already there. As soon as they saw him and found out why he was there they arrested him on the spot. Bananas, right? He has been denied parole multiple times, and he was up for parole again in 2016, but I don’t think it was granted. I was really close to his sister in junior high school and used to hang out at their house all the time.
Q: Favorite Schitt’s Creek moment/episode/quote?
My favorite moment is when Alexis realizes she has lice and David says “EW-uhhhh” with such veracity I laugh til I cry.
Q: You live in Memphis—I love Memphis! How many times have you been to Graceland? What’s your favorite room/exhibit?
I LOVE Elvis. I have loved Elvis since I was a kid. He died when I was a year old, but somehow I found his music and movies when I was young and Blue Hawaii is still one of my favorite movies to this day. I have only been to Graceland twice; once in my 20s with a group of friends, and last year for my birthday. It’s changed A LOT. Also it’s much more expensive to go now, but I have a friend who works there so she gets me discounted tickets. 🙂 She’s also a murderino. I think my favorite room is his dining room. It’s so pretty and I can just imagine him and his family sitting down to eat and it’s very heartwarming. Memphis is my favorite place I’ve lived so far. It’s a great city with so much rich history and culture.
Q: You live by the “Inbox Zero” philosophy. Can you describe this and offer any advice for anyone wanting to give this a try?
Inbox Zero is definitely more of an ideal than a rule (you can read more about it here). The “Zero” refers to how much of your brain is in your inbox, not necessarily the amount of emails. Basically, I make sure that my inbox has as few emails as possible (so I don’t want to avoid it when I open up my email client) by moving things to folders with action items, or taking the action items from the email to a project management app like Trello. It keeps my inbox from being a to-do list and allows me to keep my to-do items somewhere I can set due dates with notifications so I don’t let anything slip through the cracks. For a nerd like me, it’s actually…fun. The best advice I can give anyone is to start by creating files in their email client with really obvious names until you figure out how you want to ultimately organize everything. I have a “Admin Tasks-Completed” folder in all of my gmail accounts for simple tasks I can complete immediately, and “Admin Tasks-Moved to Trello” for tasks that will take a little more time. This way I don’t lose the email associated with a task I’m going to work on later in case I need to reference it.
Q: What websites/Instagram accounts/books/shows/podcasts are you into right now?
I am super excited that Killing Eve is back on and my husband and I are watching “The Expanse” together and so far I love it. I’ve also been listening to The Murder Squad with Paul Holes and Billy Jensen, and when I take a break from true crime I listen to Dax Shepard’s podcast or The Good Place podcast. I am obsessed with all things Kristen Bell and Rob Thomas so I have been regularly stalking the Veronica Mars/Hulu Instagram accounts for the announcement about the reboot. It’s July 26th in case you’re wondering. 🙂
Q: I know you can’t pick favorites, but my clients are really wonderful, aren’t they?
Send your “best wishes” and “warmest regards” to Jacqueline at firstname.lastname@example.org!
By the way, I sent Jacqueline these adorable Schitt’s Creek-inspired embroidery hoops from Etsy as a “welcome to the team” gift—and here they are in her sunroom!
